Our Take On... Encanto

Our Take On... Encanto

The 59th film in the Disney Classics series, that started with “Snow White” arrives on the 4th of February. Encanto is a big, colourful musical extravaganza that features songs from Lin Manuel Miranda, who previously wrote songs for “Moana”, and starred in “Mary Poppins Returns”. Oh, and he also wrote a little show called “Hamilton” too.

I could write about the film, but in this case, I’ll turn it over to the Disney expert in the family, my daughter. Here’s what she thinks:

So, what’s the story of “Encanto”?

Well, it’s about this family that live in Colombia, who live in a magic house who’s like a character itself. When the children in the house get to a certain age, the get magical powers so one sister is really strong, one can make plants grow, and one has super hearing, stuff like that. But one of the sisters, Mirabel, doesn’t get a power, so she kind of feels left out, and then weird things start happening to the house, and to the family members that have powers, so she has to figure out what’s going on.

Who were the characters that stood out to you?

Mirabel, obviously, because she’s the main character. I really liked Bruno, but I don’t want to talk too much about him because I don’t want to spoil anything. I also really liked Dolores, she’s the one with the super hearing.

And what about the songs, any favourites there?

The first song is great, I think it’s called “The Family Madrigal”, and I love “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” because it’s really fun. I really enjoy all the songs though, but those are my favourites.

So, if nobody knew what to expect, what films would you say it’s like?

The songs are really catchy like the ones in “Moana”, and it’s really colourful like “Luca”. They’re the ones that they remind me of, off the top of my head!

“Encanto” is out now on DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K
